On 1st August 2014, Yamazaki Mazak Singapore and Sandvik Coromant collaborated for a joint event that is aimed at sharing innovative solutions for the oil & gas industry. The event drew a total of about 90 participants from the oil & gas industry. Attendance includes both prominent local and multi-national companies such as Schlumberger, FMC Technologies, Cameron, etc
Yamazaki Mazak Singapore’s Managing Director, Mr Kito and Sandvik Coromant Manager, Mr Bo Shomaker started the event with an opening speech, in which, thanking the customers for their continuous support throughout the years.
Mr Akihiko Nakashima, General Manager of Sales, Engineering Department in Yamazaki Mazak Corporation was the guest speaker from Japan who has 35 years of experience in various disciplines such as design, engineering and application in multi-tasking machines. During his seminar, Mr Nakashima shared with the audience new and advanced applications for Mazak’s flagship multi-tasking machines; INTEGREX series which generated a lot of interest particularly on hardmetal machining and special processes for the Oil & Gas industries.
Sandvik Coromant’s Support Manager for Aerospace and Oil & Gas, Mr Simon Hor not only shared with the audience on the overview of the oil and gas industry, but also tooling solutions to meet the demands of the industry in the modern era.
Mazak’s facility tour enabled customers to develop a better understanding of the various support functions in the new S.E Asia Technology Center such as application & maintenance training, Parts Centre, Turnkey Solution etc. Customers also get to see the newly expanded production facilities in a clean and temperature controlled factory environment for assembly of high precision machine tools.
In the afternoon session seminar, Mr KS Chong (Yamazaki Mazak Singapore Senior Sales Director) and Mr Sim Chee Siong (Product & Application Specialist, Drilling) respectively gave customers further insights on global machining trends and advanced tooling solutions for the oil & gas industry.
Prior to the conclusion of the event, customers were treated to a live demonstration of high speed machining of Inconel cladding on a large Oil & Gas part using ceramic tools on Mazak’s Integrex e-670 multi-tasking Mill Turn machine, followed by Power Cut on Acme Thread on a heavy duty slant bed CNC lathe (Slant Turn Nexus 550).
